10 atypical horror films to see absolutely in 2022

If you are a fan of horror movies and you have nothing to eat right now, don’t worry: several horror films that show at least a little originality should be released in 2022. Now, we desperately need, as fans of the horror genre, to discover horror films that break out of the classic schemes at the moment, we will certainly all agree on this point. so here’s 10 atypical goofy horror movies, which come out of the classic pattern, and which we are impatiently waiting to see in 2022.

1) the cursed

The Cursed mixes the supernatural with ancient legends to bring werewolves, a type of creature often underestimated in horror, back into fashion. The film is set in the 19th century, in an infernal landscape, against a background of plague and pitchforks. The trailer currently offers sequences that seem quite successful: we hope that the film will keep its promises.

2) speak no evil

According to the critics who have already seen it, it would be a horror film that offers a very good ending, which is quite rare in the “horror movie” category to emphasize it. In this film, a Danish couple meets a Dutch couple on vacation in Tuscany, and the dutch couple invite their new friends to visit them at home. As the story progresses, it soon becomes pretty obvious that the Dutch couple aren’t who they say they are. Speak No Evil seems to be some sort of fictional study of the limits of politeness in the face of discomfort (even, in the face of extremely stressful or embarrassing situations), and on the dark consequences that may follow. A psychological horror film that we are already looking forward to discovering.

Release date : initially, January 2022, but the release date has since been postponed, without further details.

3) a banquet

In this film, a single mother has to deal with her teenage daughter who is convinced that an entity possesses her body, and that she now lives for the sole purpose of serve this higher power (power that refuses to feed itself). It is both a psychodrama and a horror film about possession, all set against a backdrop of societal issues and topics related to adolescence.

4) you won’t be alone

With the very talented Noomi Rapace, this film follows a wild young witch who accidentally kills a villager. She then takes possession of her body and discovers what is the daily life of people who are not witches, and who use “classic human” objects (which is very “muggle”you will see if you are a fan of the saga Harry Potter). Very quickly, she moves from one body to another to experience life as it is lived in different bodies. The film is set in 19th century Macedonia, and uses an ancient dialect. You Won’t Be Alone also boasts stunning cinematography. We can almost feel the bales of hay rolling down the hills while a witch’s flesh burns at the stake. And that is not nothing.

Release date : April 1, 2022.

5) X

The horror movie X follows a group of adult film directors, who find themselves shooting their new movie on a remote farm in Texas. Unfortunately for them, their hosts (an elderly, reclusive couple) seem to be a bit too interested in the team’s shenanigans. Apart from this particular synopsis between porn and old people with strange behaviorthe film X is already being talked about before its release, since the scenes of the film promise to be very qualitative. The images were indeed shot in and around the city of Whanganui, where a large barn was built just for production.

Release date : March 18, 2022.

6) studio 666

This feature film is the adaptation of a story imagined by the leader of the Foo Fighters group, Dave Grohl. In Studio 666, the group of musicians leaves to isolate itself in a gloomy mansion, and this, in order to record their tenth album there. But once there, supernatural events occur. Dave Grohl is gradually losing his footing (and his memory), and shows himself, at the same time, more and more violent. This is a horror-comedy that aims to be out of the ordinary.

Release date : February 25, 2022.

7) hatching

Hatchinga Finnish film horror, has already earned 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and the site describes the film as follows: “A message film in a hard shell horror, Hatching sits between beauty and revulsion, and spotlights director Hanna Bergholm as a bright new talent”. This psychological horror film follows a 12-year-old gymnast whose mother is obsessive and wants to control everything. The young girl then finds an egg with a peculiar appearance, and decides to keep it warm until it hatches... And releases the creature that contains it.

Release date : April 29, 2022.

8) unwelcome

It’s about a horror comedy which sees a London couple inherit a home in the beautiful Irish countryside. Everything could be fine, but the couple will soon be chased through the woods by murderous goblins. Not only does the comedy sound off, but it’s a British comedy that would bear strong similarities to Hot Fuzz. And for that alone, it’s a must-see horror movie in 2022.

Release date : March 17, 2022.

9) dark harvest

Dark Harvest is a fantasy horror film directed by David Slade and based on the novel of the same name by Norman Partridge. In a small town in the Midwest, each fall, a supernatural specter named “Sawtooth Jack” emerges from the cornfields and approaches the town church, where several gangs of teenagers wait impatiently to confront him (in an annual rite of life and death). Richie Shepard, for his part, lives in the shadow of his big brother. To prove himself, the latter will team up with Kelly Haines, and will then try to defeat this walking nightmare, so as to be able to escape from this town with no future.

Release date : September 9, 2022.

10) Boop

Boop is the new horror project from Jordan Peelewith a 5-star cast, including Daniel Kaluuya (of get-out), or even Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria). The film’s trailer aired during the Super Bowl, and generated millions of interactions. The synopsis of the film is short, and very intriguing : “In the Utah desert, rumors are circulating from house to house about a strange phenomenon caused by a mysterious devastating cloud”. Yes, something strange is floating in the air… Boop is certainly one of the horror films that will have to be watched the most in the coming year, since it is very likely make a lot of noise when it comes out.
