Avengers, essential films for the MCU

Throughout the first three phases of the MCU, the Avengers films have always been the high point of what has been set up with the various films focusing on the headliners of the Marvel stable in cinema. From the first Iron Man to Avengers: Endgame, everything has been put in place to offer viewers a plot developed over more than twenty films and for eleven years, between 2008 and 2019, until the ultimate confrontation against Thanos. .

Whether it’s Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame, each has been a real turning point in the different phases, even more in the third, and a gateway to the next. But according to the boss of the studios, Kevin Feige, it may well be that the saga of the Avengers films no longer enters the plans of Disney and the next phases of the MCU.

In the course of a report entitled Marvel Assembled, Kevin Feige made remarks that leave little doubt about the future of the Avengers films, in particular this extract: “ Marvel Studios and the Cinematic Universe have now passed their tenth anniversary and with the release of this final Avengers, we have finally completed a 22-film infinity saga. “. A word “final” which implies that Avengers: Endgame is indeed the ultimate opus stamped “Avengers”.

The end of an era?

Fans can be reassured, Disney and Marvel do not intend to put an end to superhero meetings. With the launch of a fourth phase which is already well underway thanks to formats featuring Wanda Maximoff (alias Scarlett Witch), Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi, the Eternals or even Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, it could be that the paths of certain superheroes cross again and that they share the poster in their respective licenses without appearing under the banner “Avengers”.

Recently, we have seen the emergence of certain duos such as Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, in No Way Homeand soon Doctor Strange and Scarlett Witch as we saw in the latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Moreover, we understand more and more with the last films of phase 4 that the multiverse should have an essential place in the MCU and that it would open the door to the appearance of new superheroes, old and even alternative versions!

Where do we go from here? Where to start? And what we really wanted to do was two things: start from scratch, with new characters, new storylines, but also go back to the deepest and richest mythology in all of Marvel comics.

Earlier in 2021, Kevin Feige had already spoken on a film involving many MCU heroes, but it would seem that this fourth phase is a period of transition, of stepping back to develop a new saga where the new superheroes could be made to cooperate all together in a movie.

I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time between Endgame and the start of a new saga, which is already underway and has already started (…) And then you need time to build this saga before starting to gather everyone.
