The Renault Mégane E-Tech is the new 100% electric model from the Diamond firm. And the least we can say is that it has already won us over. By browsing the Renault website, the Mégane E-Tech is already displayed at fairly attractive monthly payments, under 250 € / month. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this offer? Decryption.
In France, in 2021, no less than 162,000 electric cars were sold, an increase of 45.6% compared to 2020. In the last month of last year, electric vehicles even reached 15 % of market share, thus approaching diesel, whose market share was around 17% during this same period.
And the year 2022 should be even more prosperous for the electric car, with more and more products on the market and an ecological bonus still in the game, even if the scale is set to change on June 30. The podium of electric cars sold in France last year was made up of the Peugeot e-208 in third position with 17,858 registrations, behind the Renault Zoé (23,573) and the Tesla Model 3 (24,911).
But this ranking could quickly change with the arrival of a new French model, namely the Renault Mégane E-Tech that we have just taken over. And it is clear that the Diamond firm has achieved quite a tour de force by currently offering one of the best electric cars on the market.
If you are tempted to buy a VAE and this electric Mégane catches your eye, Renault has a rather interesting financing offer. Your favorite sales advisor has surely already praised the financing he offers, and in particular LLD or LOA: long-term rental and rental with option to buy.
To differentiate the two, it’s simple, you “rent” the car in both cases for a period of time defined when signing the rental contract.
The difference between these two rental offers comes at the end of the contract, after 3, 4 or 5 years. With the LOA (rental with option to buy), you will have the choice between exercising the option to buy (previously defined when signing the contract) or returning the vehicle. The LLD (long-term rental) does not include a purchase option at the end of the contract. In other words, you return the car.
This financing makes it possible to display certain models at monthly rates which are psychologically more accessible. Looking more closely at these offers, several conditions must be met. What sometimes leave empty-handed when the rent displayed and posted on the Internet and on all communication channels doubles if you do not meet all the conditions.
This is why, within this section, we offer you a breakdown of the offers of the moment. We are going to take a closer look at the conditions to be met and whether, economically speaking, this financing can be suitable for the use you will have of the vehicle. And today, after having deciphered the offer of the Škoda Enyaq iV available from €299/month, that of the Kia EV6 from €297/month, the MG ZS EV at €99/month, and that of the Peugeot e-208 at €149/month, we are going to look at the Renault Mégane E-Tech at €248/month.
What is the Renault Mégane E-Tech model offered at the price of €248/month?
The Mégane E-Tech being a new product, there are not yet any really promotional offers concerning it. To manage to find financing, you have to go directly to the configurator, with a rather interesting call price displayed. So, if there are no special financing offers, there are no promotional posters either.
When we arrive directly on the configurator, we immediately have the car that we are going to have for 248 €/month and not a more top-of-the-range and better-equipped model with a crazy financing offer right next to it. The Renault Mégane E-Tech catalog is still quite limited and, overall, the versions offered are still quite high-end. In a few months, it would not be surprising to see even lower financing offers.
The €248/month model benefits from a 130 horsepower electric motor and 250 Nm of torque. The battery, with a capacity of 40 kWh, can cover 300 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The “equilibrium” finish allows you to benefit, as standard, from the equipment listed below:

The base color to benefit from the offer is very dull since it is “Glacier White”. On the other hand, if you want to add one or two options (including colors), you immediately exit the offer and the monthly payments go up. Renault also offers several types of charging for its Mégane, and of course the offer includes the “Standard Charge” version, that is to say without direct current fast charging.
What are the conditions to be eligible for the Renault Mégane E-Tech LLD offer?
This is a long-term rental offer over 36 months and 30,000 kilometers maximum. The site indicates that the offer at 248 € / month is subject to a contribution of 10,000 euros. This contribution does not include the deduction of the maximum ecological bonus of 6,000 euros eligible until June 30, 2022. The bonus is deducted from the contribution. Thus, it will fall to 4000 euros.
Note that this offer is not subject to the conversion bonus and therefore to the scrapping of an old vehicle. With your LLD, Renault does not include maintenance or the three-year warranty extension. The car will be guaranteed from the outset for only two years.
How much will the Renault Mégane E-Tech LLD offer cost you?
Over three years of rental, with contribution, your Renault Mégane E-Tech will cost you 12,928 euros without maintenance, warranty extension and assistance. Renault displays its electric Mégane from 35,200 euros on its site, ecological bonus of 6000 euros not deducted. This ultimately gives us a car displayed at the list price of 29,200 euros.
Starting from this price, you will therefore pay, over three years, 44.2% of the price of your car. This is overall a little higher than the depreciation of a new car after about three years of use. As the offer is not an LOA, there is no option to buy back the vehicle. It must be returned at the end of the rental.
Beware of the cost of repairs, which are always expensive at the time of return. We advise you to do it before at a bodybuilder, it will cost you less than at a dealership. If you take a vehicle back to your Renault dealer after your LLD, he will also be a little less careful about the costs of repairs.
Note that this is not a promotional offer, but a rent displayed on the first page of the configurator. Renault offers a function on its site to simulate its financing. We arrived at an offer slightly lower than the €248/month displayed, in this case €227/month, but over 48 months with a contribution of €4,500, bonus deducted.
Funding is not yet completely locked in by an offer on a specific product. Adding an option or a color will not necessarily affect the monthly payment. The change of finish, motorization or battery yes on the other hand.
What are the advantages of the Renault Mégane E-Tech LLD offer?
As we mentioned during our test, the Renault Mégane E-Tech is a well-bred car, very well-bred even with dynamic qualities and comfort at the top of the category. The finishes are there, the entry-level equipment is quite correct and consumption is controlled overall.
The advantage also is that it is not a well-framed offer that concerns a specific product in stock at the dealership. And that dealers often do not have or no longer have. Therefore, the addition of optional paint or equipment will not necessarily lead to a large increase in the monthly payment.
What are the disadvantages of the Renault Mégane E-Tech LLD offer?
From the disadvantages, there are some to this offer, or rather to the car that is offered. Because yes, if the Mégane E-Tech is an excellent electric car, it is even more so when it comes to a more upscale model, as we had them during our first tests.
On closer inspection, there are a few things that are wrong, starting with the total absence of fast charging for this “Standard Charge” version. To go to the level above, you have to take the “Boost Charge” option billed at 2000 euros in the catalog to benefit from three-phase charging ranging from 11 to 22 kW (supplied as standard on the Renault Zoé and the electric Twingo, etc.) and DC up to 100kW. As standard, it will be single-phase up to 7.4 kW. In other words, it will be charging at home and then that’s it.
And with a mixed range of around 300 km, that could put off more than one customer. Because even if the Mégane E-Tech is not very greedy in kWh, the density of the current charging network could give some cold sweats for long journeys, and therefore for versatile use. And in addition, without fast recharging, it is an obstacle course. This offer is therefore only reserved for those making daily journeys with the possibility of recharging at home.
As this is not a promotional offer, insurance (death/disability, job loss, etc.) is not included and you will have to add a few euros per month to get it. On the other hand, not having the extended warranty over the entire duration of the financing, nor the assistance, nor the maintenance, is a bit stingy. By playing a little with the financing simulator, there are several levels to the LLD and it is possible to add certain services, such as the replacement vehicle (€20/month) or maintenance with the warranty extension. (10 €/month).
