Judd Apatow Really Wants To Do A Jonah Hill Sequel (But It’s Badly Done)

Fifteen years after the release of SuperGraveproducer Judd Apatow is very keen on making a sequel, but the actors are a little less so.

If the 80s were marked by Breakfast Club and the 90s by rebel generationthe 2000s also had their generational teen movie with SuperGrave. With its 121 million dollars collected on American soil on its release, the film directed by Greg Mottola (Adventureland, Paul) did better than the first American Piea film with a fairly similar humor.

But like a bunch of other feature films, SuperGrave grew in popularity thereafter, becoming a must-see movie that any self-respecting teenager should have seen. This Project X avant l’heure also participated in the recognition of many young actors such as Michael Cera, who will be on the bill of Juno the same year, but also of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen who had already toured together in Knocked up, instructions for use by Judd Apatow, which hits theaters two months before SuperGrave.

The return of the prodigal son alias McLovin?

As with any successful film, the question of the sequel arose. Several team members have spoken about a possible sequel, including Seth Rogen who wrote the film with his friend Evan Goldberg when they were only thirteen years old, and who is also one of the producers. Two years ago, he had declared that he did not wish to do so for fear of tainting it. Michael Cera had declared that he did not want to shoot immediately, but was ready for a new film with the same cast. Two less cheerful interventions, unlike that of producer Judd Apatow during the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum :

“I always wanted them to do a sequel to SuperGrave. I know Jonah [Hill] said, “Oh it would be great to make a movie when we’re 70 or 80,” but I really wanted them to do a college sequel where Jonah fails so he visits Michael Cera in college . But everyone said: “Nah, we’re not going to screw up SuperGrave by risking making a bad sequel”, and I always answered the same thing: “It’s like saying not to do the second episode of The Sopranos , why think we could screw up the sequel? »

SuperGrave : Fotograf Emma Stone, Jonah HillApatow that makes the sauce rise

While the four main actors (Hill, Cera, Mintz-Plasse and Stone) are in their thirties, it is hard to see them returning to college. On the other hand, they will soon be able to participate in a production by Judd Apatow, who has become the quarantine specialist thanks to 40 years old, still a virgin and 40 years user’s Guide. Even though SuperGrave is perfect as it is, we would still have liked to find Seth, Evan and McLovin.

The very busy schedule of the actors suggests that a sequel, if there is a sequel, would not see the light of day immediately. Indeed, Jonah Hill is rather busy, he recently toured with Harmony Korine and Adam McKay, and Michael Cera will soon be appearing on Barbie, the next Greta Gerwig. If for the moment nothing is done, we are waiting for the next developments in the case. SuperGrave 2 impatiently.
